San Diego is utterly beautiful in and of its self, but the Hotel Del Coronado is really something special. It’s one of the oldest and largest wooden structures in the United States and, one of my favorite Marilyn Monroe movies of all time was filmed there – Some Like It Hot. Whenever I have visitors in town (which is pretty often), one of my must dos is taking them to the Hotel Del to experience the structural beauty, and of course to enjoy a cocktail on one of the bar decks, sun and ocean as our backdrop. Recently, I was fortunate enough to be invited into Hotel Del to review a treatment at their luxurious spa. Pure pleasure doesn’t even begin to describe what I experienced.
The Hotel Del is old and beautiful in a romantic kind of way that makes you feel like you’re in another time. The Spa at the Del is a bit more modern and offers a variety of ocean-inspired massages, facials, body wraps, scrubs and more. The spa features 21 treatment rooms, relaxation areas for men and women, hydrotherapy tubs and steam rooms. The calming atmosphere and private terrace with vanishing-edge pool overlooking the Pacific provides the ultimate therapeutic retreat at this hotel spa.
I decided to keep it basic and go with the Swedish Massage that uses light to medium pressure and long, flowing strokes to soothe, relax and revitalize. As someone who kind of strays from massages, I was more than pleased with this treatment. In desperate need of relaxation, I literally forgot where I was for 50 minutes and let myself be completely immersed in the massage. You can check out all the offerings here – there’s even a Some Like It Hot package – swoon!
After my massage I was able to enjoy the rest of the amenities including the steam room and jacuzzi. What can I say? Both the steam and the jacuzzi were perfection and I could’ve spent the entire weekend switching back and forth between the two. Spa guests also have access to an outdoor lounge area and pool, but the day I was there was a bit cool so I didn’t indulge. If you ever find yourself on the beautiful island of Coronado, do yourself a HUGE favor and stop by the Hotel Del and check out the spa. Like I said earlier, its pure pleasure.
